The Fentanyl Test Strip is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with antibodies sensitive enough to detect fentanyl and many of its derivatives above 10 ng/ml, which is sufficient to rule out dangerous levels. Fentanyl test strips are recommended to be used in conjunction with a complete reagent test kit. Fentanyl is an extremely powerful synthetic opioid, with derivatives often 50 to 100 times stronger than heroin. It is largely responsible for the overdoses in the opioid epidemic. Fentanyl can be fatal even at doses invisible to the naked eye. It is often found in counterfeit drugs, opioid and non-opioid research chemicals, or even common street drugs like cocaine. When fentanyl is mixed with heroin, cocaine, or other substances, it is never mixed evenly. The powder on one side of the bag may not contain fentanyl, while the powder on the other side may contain a lethal dose.
